At Advantage Disposal, we often receive questions about what items are and are not recyclable, so we wanted to provide a little more information on what should (and shouldn’t) go into your residential recycling bins.
The following items ARE recyclable and can be included in your single-stream recycling bin:
- Mixed glass
- Aluminum cans
- Tin cans
The following items are NOT recyclable:
- Plastic bags
- PVC pipes
- Audio & VHS cassettes
- Anything compostable
Many environmentally conscious people opt to include questionable items in their recycling bins, thinking that the item might be recyclable and if it’s not, it can just get sorted out at the processing facility. However, this is not the best approach! That’s because including non-recyclable items isn’t harmless. For example, plastic bags can get caught in the machinery used for sorting single-stream recycling, leading to jams, and food can attract insects and vermin. We appreciate your desire to recycle everything possible, but your best bet is to stick to items included on the “are recyclable” list above. This helps ensure the process is as efficient and effective as possible, maximizing the environmental benefits of recycling.
Still have questions about whether an item is recyclable? Just give us a call! The Advantage Disposal team is here to help.
